In Turkish Language, verbs are types of words that grasp attention with their variabilities in meaning and function. Besides their lexical meanings formed within context, they sometimes may define the realization type of another verb with which it becomes a compound by being grammaticalized, and at times, they may join to the vocabulary by switching from grammatical to lexical. As in other variations of Turkish language, there are a limited number of verbs that have both lexical and grammatical uses in Chuvash language as well. In Chuvash, kay- “to go” form is a part of the verbs in question and it is a verb that draws attention with its grammatical variabilities. In this article, the aim is to determine the uses of the verb kay- “to go”, which has never been studied from a holistic perspective, regarding the vocabulary and grammar of Chuvash language. In the article, the first examples of the verb in historical Chuvash language will be determined; the manner of action expressions of {-sA kay-} postverb in Chuvash language which occur with its grammaticalization will be revealed; and finally its contributions to the vocabulary of Chuvash language other than its lexical uses regarding the root meaning will be determined.
