Büyük medeniyetlere beşiklik eden Van, tarihi süreç içerisinde çok sayıda devletin ya da imparatorluğun mücadele sahası olmuştur. Van Kalesi’nin sağlam ve korunaklı olması, kaleye hâkim olan devlete büyük bir avantaj sağlamıştır. Osmanlı Devleti’nin 16. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından sonra serhad bölgesinde hâkimiyet kurmasıyla, daha sonraki dönemlerde İran’a yapılan seferlerde Van en önemli eyaletlerinden biri olmuştur. Van bir serhad eyaleti olması dolayısıyla dönem dönem sınır saldırılarına uğramıştır. Bundan ötürü Osmanlı Devleti, serhad sınırındaki Van Kalesi’ne ve çevre sancaklardaki kalelere sürekli olarak tahkimat yapmış ve bu kalelere gerekli lojistik desteği sağlamıştır. Osmanlı Devleti tarafından, 16. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından sonra İran üzerine çok sayıda sefer düzenlenmiş, bu seferlerde Van eyaleti beylerbeyine ve sancakbeylerine sefer lojistiği için İstanbul’dan çok sayıda emir gönderilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı Osmanlı-İran seferlerinde Van eyaletinin Osmanlı seferlerindeki yerini birincil kaynaklar çerçevesinde ele almaktır. Ayrıca çalışmada Osmanlı-İran seferlerinde Van eyaletinin nasıl bir öneme sahip olduğunu ortaya çıkarmak hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmada temel olarak savaş dönemlerinde Van eyaletinin merkezi yönetimden lojistik destek aldığı ve aynı zamanda orduya destek sağladığı açıkça ortaya konulmuştur. Bunun yanı sıra Van eyaletinin; İran’a yakın olması, ordunun zahire ihtiyacının bir kısmını bu eyalete bağlı sancaklardan temin edilmesi ve gerekli lojistik desteğin hızlı bir şekilde orduya ulaştırılması açısından oldukça önemli roller üstlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda Van eyaleti seferler esnasında ordu için hayati öneme sahip olan un, buğday, arpa gibi gıda maddelerinin yanı sıra cephane, barut ve askeri lojistik maddelerini sağlamıştır. Osmanlı ve Safevi devletleri arasındaki bu stratejik konumu itibariyle Van eyaleti imparatorluk nezdinde vazgeçilmez bir sınır eyaleti hüviyetini uzun yıllar boyunca korumuştur. Van’ın eyalet ve imparatorluk için haiz olduğu bu önem arşiv kaynaklarına da yansımıştır. Bu itibarla çalışma arşiv kaynakları ve daha başkaca veriler ışığında derinlemesine irdelenmeyi gerektirdiğinden düküman analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır.
Van, the cradle of great civilizations, has been the battleground of many states or empires throughout history. Van Castle provided a great advantage to the state that ruled the castle due to its fortified and well-protected structure. With the Ottoman Empire's rule in the Serhad region in the second half of the 16th century, Van became one of the most important provinces for expeditions against Iran. Van was subjected to border attacks from time to time due to its status as a frontier province. Therefore, the Ottoman Empire continuously fortified the Van Castle on the frontier border and the castles in the surrounding sanjaks and provided the necessary logistical support to these castles. After the second half of the 16th century, the Ottoman Empire organized numerous expeditions against Iran, and during these expeditions, many orders were sent from Istanbul to the beylerbey and sancakbeyis of the Van province for expedition logistics. The main purpose of this article is to deal with the place of the Van province in the Ottoman-Iranian campaigns based on primary sources. In addition, the study aims to reveal the importance of the Van province in the Ottoman-Iranian campaigns. This article clearly demonstrates that Van province received logistical support from the central government and also provided support to the army during times of war. On the other hand, the Van province played a very important role in terms of being close to Iran, supplying some of the army's need for agricultural supplies from the sanjaks of this province and delivering the necessary logistical support to the army quickly. In this regard, the province of Van provided the army with vital foodstuffs such as flour, wheat and barley, as well as ammunition, gunpowder and military logistics during the campaigns. Due to this strategic location between the Ottoman and Safavid states, Van province maintained its status as an indispensable border province for the empire for many years. This importance of Van for the province and the empire is also reflected in archival sources. In this respect, the document analysis technique was used since the study requires an intensive analysis in the light of archive sources and other data
