Müstakil bir araştırma sahası olarak İ’câz’ul-Kur’ân’a dair kaleme alınan eserler içerisinde bazıları ilklerden olması itibariyle öncü durumundadır. Bunlardan iki tanesi Hattâbî (ö. 388/998) ve Rummânî’ye (ö. 384/994) aittir. Bu iki muasır müellif, Kur’ân’ın mucizeliğine farklı açılardan baksalar da Kur’ân’ın, maksadını ifade etmek için seçtiği kelimelerdeki harikuladeliği hususunda benzer bir yaklaşıma sahiptirler. Arapçada belirli bir anlam etrafında birbiriyle örüntü içerisinde olan pek çok yakın anlamlı kelime bulunmaktadır. Muhatap ve bağlama göre bu kelimelerden en uygun olanının seçilmesi edebiyatçının kalitesini tayin eden mühim bir ölçüttür. Bu meziyet Kur’ân’da mucize seviyesindedir. Hattâbî ve Rummâni, söz konusu edebi meziyet bakımından Kur’ân kelimelerini eserlerinde incelemiştir. Hattâbî, özellikle belirli bir edebi sanat çerçevesinde kalmayıp genel anlamda kelime tercihlerini araştırmış ve yakın anlamlı diğer kelimeler içerisinde neden o kelimenin Kur’ân’da kullanıldığı ile ilgili yorumlar yapmıştır. Rummânî ise özellikle istiare başlığı altında Kur’ân’ın bu özelliğini araştırmıştır. Bu çalışmada iki müellifin konuya yaklaşımları ve ele aldıkları kelime tahlilleri irdelenmiştir.
