Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the critical reading skills of 7th grade students. The work group of the research used in the visual scan model is the Ataker High School, Hayrettin Özkan High School and Ayşe Fitnat High School, which is located in Hatay or Antakya district. Critical Reading Skills Measurement Tool and Personal Information Form developed by the researcher for the research data. The obtained data is analyzed through the unrelated sampling t test and the one-way variance analysis (ANOVA). The study found that the critical reading skills of 7th grade students were at the middle level. There is also a significant difference between girls and boys students in favor of girls students. Students who spend more time on weekly reading and students who read more books throughout the year have received higher scores than the measurement tool. Students who see themselves successful and very successful in the Turkish course and students who have high in the first semester end class score in the Turkish course have seen that the scores they get from the measurement tool are higher. However, there was no meaningful connection between critical reading skills and the time spent in front of television, computer or tablet.
