Abstract:

Turkish migration to abroad begins to increase in the 1960s. The 1961 labor agreement signed between Turkey and Germany, creating a generation immigrants continued until today in Germany. Military coup periods also triggers the migration of intellectuals and political persons to the abroad in Turkey. One of these people, Güney Dal, settles in Germany in 1972. Dal deals with migration as an immigrant intellectual writer. The author’s story book, Birds of the Wrong Heaven, allows us to witness the lives of different migrant groups. The stories in the work are the product of the author’s broad perspective, observations and experiences. In this study, the reasons for the immigration of Turks to Germany, the jobs they work there, the difficulties they experience, their homesickness and their feelings of loneliness are emphasized; how the image of the foreigner is deepened for Germans and Turks is examined. The processes of alienation from the identity and values of Turks living in Germany for a long time have also been taken into account and it has been understood that alienation is an inevitable consequence for immigrants.
