22 Temmuz 1926-22 Nisan 1927 tarihleri arasında Cumhuriyet gazetesinde 155 sayı tefrika edilen Harabeler aşka, kadın-erkek ilişkilerine, sosyal ve kültürel hayata odaklanan bir İstanbul romanıdır. “Yunus Nadi Beyefendi”ye ithaf edilen roman Kadıköy, Beyoğlu ve Büyükada’nın eğlence mekânlarını, İstanbul sosyetesinin yaşam tarzını işler. Yazarın diğer eserlerinde olduğu gibi aşk ve kadın romanın merkezini oluşturur. Ancak Harabeler’in yazarın diğer romanlarından ayrılan yönü, sosyal eleştiriye de yer vermesidir. Eserde, Cumhuriyet sonrası yaşanan toplumsal değişimlere, alafrangalığın yozlaştırıcı yönlerine, Batılılaşmanın sosyal ve kültürel hayat üzerindeki etkisine dikkat çekilir. Batı merkezli bir eğitim sürecinden geçmiş olan roman başkişisi Nuri Süha’nın bakış açısından anlatılan olaylarda özellikle sosyal ve kültürel hayatta yaşanan değişimler, Cumhuriyet ile birlikte farklılaşan yaşayış tarzı dikkat çekici bir şekilde işlenir. Bu çalışmada, romanda yer alan toplumsal çözülme ve değişimler ele alınmış, romandan yapılan alıntılarla Mehmet Rauf’un bu eserinde sadece aşk ve kadın konusunu işlemediği ortaya konulmuştur. Böylece yazarın daha çok bilinen Halâs adlı romanı gibi Harabeler’in de aşk ve eğlence hayatının dışında sosyal ve millî meselelere yer veren bir roman olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
From 22 July 1926 to 22 April 1927 in the Republic newspaper, 155 numbers of Harabeler is an Istanbul novel focused on love, women and men's relations, social and cultural life. The novel dedicated to "Yunus Nadi Mr." deals with the entertainment spaces of Kadıköy, Beyoğlu and Büyükada, the lifestyle of the Istanbul society. Like in the other works of the author, love and woman form the center of the novel. But Harabeler’s distinction from the author’s other novels is that it also puts place to social criticism. The work draws attention to the social changes that have occurred after the Republic, to the corrupt aspects of alphragism, to the influence of Westernization on social and cultural life. The changes in the social and cultural life, especially in the events described from the perspective of the novel protagonist Nuri Süha, which has passed through a Western-centric educational process, the different lifestyle with the Republic is treated in a remarkable way. In this study, the social settlement and changes in the novel were addressed, with quotes from the novel, it was revealed that in this work Mehmet Rauf did not work only on the subject of love and women. Thus, the author’s more well-known novel, Halâs, has been found that Harabeler is a novel that involves social and national issues beyond love and entertainment life.
