A Comparative Study of Mathematics Curriculum offered to Students with and without Hearing Impairment at Elementary Level

Abstract:

The primary objective of the study was to compare the curriculum of mathematics of students with and without hearing impairment specifically for grades VI and VII. The nature of research was qualitative and document analysis was used for curriculum comparison. Researchers used mathematics curriculum of Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board of VI- VII grades. The content of mathematics curriculum was analyzed and discrepancies were found. It was evident from the findings of the study that a number of units were skipped from the mathematics textbooks of students with hearing impairment (SWHI). A large portion of exercises was skipped, as many questions were not included. It depicts that the SWHI were not offered equal learning experiences in subject of mathematics. So, it is recommended that curriculum should be adapted not reduced and same learning opportunities should be offered to SWHI.
