Abstract:

The ecological criticism (environmentalist criticism/ecocriticism) theory and ecological poetry (eco-poetry), which have been put forward by using the awareness/awareness-raising function of literature in recent times when human-induced environmental damage has increased, can be used as a tool in concretizing the destruction caused by humanity. With its mediation function, ecological criticism and ecological poetry can be considered as an important initiative in the name of awareness to be created in order to restore the balance of nature. The aim of the study is to evaluate the theme of "Nature and Universe" in the secondary school Turkish course books in the context of ecopoetry and to make some alternative poetry suggestions for the related coursebooks. In the first chapter of the study, ecological criticism theory and ecological poetry are introduced. In the second chapter, the poems in the secondary school Turkish language coursebooks (5th-8th grades) within the scope of the theme of "Nature and the Universe" are examined in the context of ecological poetry. At the end of the study, it was revealed that the poems included in the relevant theme focused only on the beauty of nature in the subject/main emotion and that none of the poems were related to the ecopoetry type. Poems determined as a result of field scanning based on the aforementioned determination are listed as examples that can be included in secondary school Turkish language coursebooks in the context of ecopoetry. Some suggestions have been made in order to draw attention to the type of ecopoetry.
