Abstract:

Reactions to crises can not only occur within the framework of the crisis preparations by or individuals, but can also be formed around variables such as individuals’ gender, educational levels and work experience. This is also the result of the additional parameters to be taken into account in the preparation requirements for crises. The aim of the study is to find out how the demographic factors of tourist guides affect the decision-making process in crisis management. The study was carried out in the framework of data collected through the survey of 386 tourist guides. The study’s assessments in the context of demographic information showed that women’s tourist guides mostly showed a more successful crisis management than men’s colleagues in many stages of crises. The study, based on the time of experience in the profession, also found that the time of experience directly affects the rate of crisis impact and that the individual’s experience increases the ability to manage the crisis. Finally, it has been observed that the level of education of tourist guides has no significant impact on crisis management. * This study is derived from a doctoral thesis titled "Crisis Management in the Tourism Industry: A Field Research on Tourist Guides".
