Abstract:

In historical studies, humourous magazines have an important place in terms of looking at the subject from a different perspective, examining that field and at least examining the way the public views the subjects at that time. It is not even necessary to specify the expressive power of humourous magazines and cartoons in revealing the way of expression of a subject. In this context, humour and caricature reveal what cannot be said under extraordinary conditions, by blending the shocking events and processes in the lives of societies with laughter and thinking. Caricatures, which reveal the intellectual accumulation, diplomatic relations, politics and extraordinary developments of different periods as well as being thought—provoking and entertaining, can be considered as extremely important historical research materials in terms of giving the individual and society—scale general atmosphere of the period, apart from the official documents of the period in which the events took place. This study reveals how the war, diplomacy and politics dimension of the Turkish—Greek conflict is reflected to the public through cartoons and humourous characters and how the process is followed through the publications of the humour magazines Karagöz, Güleryüz and Âyine, which support the Turkish War of Independence, and the publications of the opposite Ay Dede humour magazine. aims to put. In the study, mostly humour magazines Güleryüz, Karagöz and Âyine were used; Ay Dede, who started broadcasting at the beginning of 1922, has been tried to be used in the integrity of the subject when necessary.
