Abstract:

The importance of addressing the relationships between the characteristics of the Dark Triangle and the characteristics of the HEXACO, which are suggested to be in the opposite poles in the summer of the field, is often emphasized. On the other hand, the Dark Triangle personality features are not yet studied sufficiently in the framework of the HEXACO personality model and in the focus of university students in Turkey. In this study addressed from this point of view, HEXACO’s personality characteristics (experience transparency, externality, conformity, sensitivity, responsibility and honesty-volunteering) are aimed at examining the degree in which the university students in Turkey have the levels of the Dark Triangle (Makyavelism, Narcissism and Psychopathy). The sample of the study consists of 388 (250 women, 138 men) bachelor's students who continue their studies at the various faculties of a foundation university in the 2017-2018 educational year. In this study, in addition to the Personal Information Form, we used a total of two measurement tools called the Dark Triple Personality Scale and the HEXACO Personality Scale. For the purpose of analysing the research data, simple correlation and multiple regression analysis methods have been used. According to the research findings, the variables of honesty-humility, experience transparency, sensitivity and conformity have been determined that the university students in Turkey have a significant level of make-up and psychopathy trends. On the other hand, the variables in the tendencies of narcissism of university students in Turkey have been shown to be open to externality, honesty, humility, responsibility and experience, respectively. When the findings are studied from another perspective, the HEXACO personality characteristics of honesty-humility and experience openly identified as common factors that explain the three trends of make-up, narcissism and psychopathy that form the Dark Triangle. However, the personality characteristics of sensitivity and compatibility are the factors that only put the university students' makeup and psychopathy trends in a negative direction. On the other hand, the personality characteristics of externality and responsibility are noted only as factors that determine the tendency of narcissism in a positive direction. The findings obtained were discussed on the basis of the field in the summer and then recommendations for the various applications and future studies in the field were presented.
