Abstract:

Today, the development of students in the cognitive field, as well as some skills, is considerably important. Equipping individuals with the skills that meet the needs of the 21st century is one of the main objectives of education in many countries. In this context, the skills of the 21st century have been defined by various institutions and organizations and the plans for the development of these skills have been included in the educational programs. This research aims to study the achievements of the social information curriculum that is being applied in Turkey in the 2019-2020 educational year and the activities and questions included in the curriculum in the context of the skills of the 21st century. In the research method of quality research, the data was obtained by the document review technique, analyzed by applying visual analysis. Documents studied within the framework of the research are the events and questions included in the social information course curriculum achievements (4,5,6 and 7th grade) and MEB social information course books (4,5,6 and 7th grade). The research finds that achievements, effectiveness and questions are aimed at developing a limited number of 21st century skills. Achievement, activity and questions are aimed at the development of the most critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The study was also in the program and in the books 21. It has been found that the century skills do not include gains, effectiveness and questions to develop skills such as flexibility and harmony, leadership and responsibility. In light of these findings, it is recommended that social information curricula and curriculum are enriched to develop the 21st century skills of students and to acquire comprehensive qualifications in terms of the 21st century skills.
