Abstract:

The aim of this research is to determine the attitudes of 8th graders towards creative drama in order to improve their reading ability in English class. The study groups are 40 students in the 8th grade of a private secondary school in the centre of Samsun. Of these, 20 are in the experimental group and 20 are in the control group. In practice, experimental and control sample groups are randomly determined. The implementation studies were carried out with the dialogues contained in the 8th grade state book. The dialogues between the control group and the state book were examined within the framework of the activities in the current training program. With the experimental group, the dialogues in the book were continued by applying creative drama techniques. The study took place over a period of 14 weeks. Both groups are given a 1st week before starting the application and 14th at the end of the application. The same attitude scale was applied during the week. Quantitative research method was used in data collection analysis of the research. The findings suggest that experimental group students, whose reading skills were tried to be improved using creative drama techniques, developed a positive attitude towards the ability to read English at the end of the application process compared to the control group where current traditional activities are monitored and the results of the pre-test attitude scale.
