Halet Çambel 1916 yılında Berlin’de doğmuş, 2014 yılında İstanbul’da vefat etmiştir. Seçkin bir ailenin kızı olan Çambel, oldukça iyi bir eğitim görmüş Fransa-Sorbonne Üniversitesinde arkeoloji eğitimi almış ve elit bir çevrede büyümüştür. Arkeoloji alanında bilim insanı olan Çambel, Anadolu’nun birçok yöresinde kazılar ve çalışmalar yapmıştır. Bu çalışmalar içinde Osmaniye Kadirli Karatepe bölgesinde yaptığı çalışmaların hayatında ayrı bir yeri vardır. Çambel,1946 yılında geldiği bölgeden ömrünün sonuna kadar ayrılmamıştır. Çok yönlü bir bilim insanı olan Çambel, bölgede yapmış olduğu kazılar yanında, bölgenin sosyo ekonomik ve kültürel gelişimi içinde çeşitli faaliyetlerde bulunmuştur. Bu bağlamda Karatepe çevresinin folkloruyla ilgili hem kendisi çalışmalar yapmış hem de başka çalışmalara vesile olmuştur. Onun elinin değmesinden sonra, Karatepelilerin hayatından kaynaklanan fıkralar, dokumalar, el zanaatları sıradan şeyler olmaktan çıkıp birer kültürel değer olmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, çok yönlü bir bilim insanı olan Çambel’in folklorculuk yönünü ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bu çalışmayla Çambel’in Kadirli Karatepe halkıyla bütünleşerek, Osmaniye halk bilimi çalışmalarına yaptığı katkılar tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden literatür tarama ve veri analizi yöntemleri uygulanmıştır.
Halet Chambel was born in 1916 in Berlin and died in Istanbul in 2014. Chambel, a daughter of a distinguished family, has received a very good education; he has received an archaeological degree at the University of France-Sorbonne and has grown up in an elite environment. Chambel, a scientist in the field of archaeology, has done excavations and studies in many parts of Anatolia. In these studies there is a separate place in the life of his work in the Osmaniye Kadirli Karatepe region. Chambel did not leave the area in 1946 until the end of his life. Chambel, a multidisciplinary scientist, has been involved in various activities in the region’s socio-economic and cultural development, in addition to the excavations he has done in the region. In this context, Karatepe has both done studies on the folklore around and has been able to do other studies. After his hand was worn, the jokes, the documents, the hand crafts that were derived from the life of the Karatepelians came out of being ordinary things and became a cultural value. The aim of this study is to reveal the folklorist direction of Chambel, a diverse scientist. With this study, Chambel’s integration with the people of Kadirli Karatepe has been attempted to identify the contribution he has made to the work of the people of Osmaniye science. In the study, the quality research methods of literature scan and data analysis methods were applied.

With this study, the contributions Çambel made to the folklore studies of Osmaniye was examined by integrating with the people of Kadirli Karatepe. Among qualitative research methods, literature review and data analysis methods were used in the study.
