Abstract:

The responsibilities of women in the household and at work create a series of problems for women in daily life in the context of the patriarchal structure of the society. The main aim of the present study is to establish the implications of gender, home-work life balance, and violence for the daily lives of women from the vantage point of the experiences of women academics. For the purposes of the study, semi-structured interviews were held with 15 women academics. The ethics committee approval required for the interview form employed in the collection of research data was obtained from Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University Scientific Research Ethics Committee (through its decision dated 30.11.2020 and No. 155). In the relevant field study, the author posed 14 open-ended questions to the respondents with the aim of identifying their views about various issues including the factors that affected their choice of profession; the balance between life at home and life at work; violence against women; their perspective of gender; their experience of gender-based division of labour; and equality between women and men in the workplace. The main findings of the study indicate that while a married woman academic with children will be under a heavier workload, violence against women still prevails and is, in fact, on an ever-increasing trend and the level of equality between women and men attained in the workplace still falls short.
