Abstract:

The aim of this study is to reveal the teaching competencies of the instructors according to the perceptions of the teacher candidates. Descriptive survey method was used in this study. The sample of the research consists of 4th grade students studying in the classroom teaching and pre-school teaching departments at the education faculty of a university located in the Aegean Region of Turkey. The data of the study were collected through the scale of " Assessment of Faculty Members' Teaching Competencies Scale " developed by Doğanay, A., Uyar, Yeşilpınar, M., Dinçer, S., Karaçoban, F. (2021). Parametric tests were used in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the research, the teaching proficiency levels of the faculty members were in the "rarely" range. In the sub-dimensions, it was the same as the general result (rarely range) except for the student-centered and teaching dimension (occasionally range). In terms of preparation for teaching and effective presentation, pre-service teachers rarely find instructors sufficient. There is a significant difference in favor of male teacher candidates in the general perceptions of the genders of the teacher candidates regarding the teaching competencies of the faculty members. When we look at the sub-dimensions, there are significant differences in favor of male teacher candidates in the dimensions of in-class communication and preparation for teaching. When the perceptions of the teacher candidates regarding the competencies of the instructors are examined according to the variable of the department they are in, a significant difference was found in favor of the classroom teachers in all dimensions except the effective presentation dimension and in total
