Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the needs of psychological assistance of adolescents. This study, designed in the quality research model, collected data using a semi-configured interview form. The study was carried out with 58 students of 9th grade (35 girls and 23 men) who continued to high school in Burdur province center. The results of the content analysis used and performed for data analysis of the study found that the problems that adolescents most often experience and need psychological assistance are emotional problems, education and class problems, family problems, difficulties of adolescence and problems and bad habits that disturb themselves in their lives. In addition, it has been determined that teachers, families and other adults do not pay sufficient attention and support to the problems in which adolescents experience a low level of support from a mental health specialist and a school psychiatrist, and that the sources of assistance they most apply, respectively, to their friends, teachers, families and other relatives, school psychiatrists, psychologists and psychiatrists, think that more work is needed to meet the needs of psychiatric assistance for adolescents. Based on these findings, the importance of preserving and strengthening the mental health of adolescents is once more emphasized by this study. It is believed that the findings obtained are important in terms of the identification of the needs of psychological assistance of adolescents and the practice of psychological counseling.
