Abstract:

This study aims to identify whether there is a relationship between increasing digital banking practices and the number of branches and staff of banks. For this purpose, the quarterly data set for the 2007q3-2020q3 period presented by the Turkish Banking Union was analyzed with the Toda-Yamamoto Causal Test. According to the results of the analysis, from the variable of the number of customers who have been logged in at least once, the number of staff of private banks, the number of staff of public banks and the number of branches of public banks have been identified as a reason. In the past 1 year, there has been a double cause between the number of customers who have logged in at least once and the number of branches of the public banks. It is also understood that the number of branches and staff of the deposit banks is the reason for the number of active customers. These findings show that public-capital banks are also concerned with the digitalization of private-capital banks.
