Abstract:

Children are one of the groups most in need of protection and support due to their developmental characteristics. There are various legal regulations at national and international level for the protection of children. The Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Turkey is a party, is one of these legal regulations. This study aims to examine the storybooks in the TRT Children's Bookshelf application in the context of basic children's rights emphasized in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The research was conducted according to qualitative research approach and case study design. Within the scope of the research, storybooks for different age groups in the 'TRT Children's Bookshelf' application were analyzed. Purposive sampling method and maximum diversity sampling technique, which are among the non-random sampling methods, were used to determine the research materials. The study materials consisted of 15 storybooks prepared by different publishers for preschool children aged three, four and five. The research data were analyzed by content analysis method. The results of the study showed that the analyzed children's storybooks contained verbal and visual content related to children's rights. The results also demonstrated that the storybooks mostly included the right to life, secondly the right to development, thirdly the right to protection and lastly the right to participate. It was determined that the positive use of children's rights in the analyzed storybooks was more than the negative use of children's rights.
