So many results that aren't mine?

Integration Of Peace Promoting Contents Of Social Studies With Other Subjects At Elementary Level

Teachers are considering different ways to engage their students regarding the understanding about peace promotion. Integration of peace education in different subjects is one of the best way to accomplish this goal. The persistence of this study was to identify the extent of integration of identified peace education contents of social studies with other subjects. All the public educational institutions under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) located in Islamabad constituted the population, whereas the teachers of 4th and 5th grade were considered as target population. The purposive sampling technique was adopted to select the public sector schools from seven sectors of Islamabad. From each sector two schools (one boys & one girls) were selected randomly. Six teachers from each school involved in teaching of Islamiyat, Urdu and English at 4th and 5th grades were invited to participate in research process. In this way, a sample of eighty-four teachers was available for this survey. A questionnaire was prepared and the perceptions of the teachers were sought on a rating scale about integration of peace promoting contents in multiple subjects. The instrument was pilot tested for its validity. This instrument was validated by the panel of most relevant educational experts. With the permission of the concerned authority of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), the researcher personally visited the sampled schools to distribute and collect the data from the respondents. Findings were analyzed through frequency, percentage of identified peace promoting measures. These peace measures kept more importance in various subjects, because integrated curriculum prepares to students for ultimate knowledge and students can relate their classroom involvements to the real world and their life practices. Curriculum experts are encouraged to consider skills related activities and vocabulary of peace contents from social studies to other subjects. Integrated contents in one central subject can release the burden of other subjects.
