Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the levels of high school students’ connection to the school, the demographic variables they have and the characteristics of the schools they study. The research study group consists of 1011 students who are studying in 14 different high schools in Tokat district centre in the 2017-2018 educational year. The data collection tool was developed by "Student Form", "School Specifications Form" and Hill (2006) to evaluate the levels of children and adolescents' connection to school and was used by Savi (2011) to Turkish "Children and adolescents' connection scale". In the analysis of the data, visual statistics, the correlation from the parametric tests, the T-Test, the ANOVA test, and the non-parametric tests were used by Mann Whitney U tests. According to the results of the study, students have shown their commitment to their teachers, friends and schools respectively. The different dimensions of commitment and the total levels of commitment of students have been determined to make significant differences according to gender, age, class level, their parents' educational status, income level, the number of brothers and sisters and the place where their schools are located, where there is a guiding service and a gym in their schools. As a result, there are many variables that influence commitment in high schools. From these quantum variables, it is recommended to study in depth the quality of school life and the quality of school life.
