Abstract:

The study of thresholds has become one of the important critical studies that help the researcher to analyze texts from their entries, and has been since (G. Genette) wrote his book (Thresholds), but many studies have not broadened the research on other thresholds. The example of the introductory discourse, is very important to understand the text and to direct the interpretation of the reader, so we worked on this research presented as part of a research grant at the University of Qatar for work on the introductory discourse in general, and we dedicated it to the critical introductory discourse in particular because we found it an important phenomenon in determining the identity of the Qatari narrative text, a lot of novels have introductions, and this is considered among the narrative experimentation in writing fiction, and thus the text determines its creative identity, as well as its national identity by revealing some of its creative, social and heritage references. This is why the subject of thresholds and the study of text entries are among the most important new critical investigations within the Western critical institution, where we still know a theoretical and applied movement on its analytical components (including the critical introduction) critics have revealed since the founder of the topic of thresholds, (G. Genette) in the mid-eighties until now. After the migration of this critical subject to the Arab Critical Institution in the early 90s of the last century, serious studies began to appear working on textual entries, aware of the need for the text to question its thresholds and to read from its initial entries, before analyzing its internal structures. Research has abounded on the title, the dedications, and the cover photos in particular. However, the approach of the introduction in general and the critical introduction, in particular, has not found much interest in critical studies, for the novelty of the subject on the one hand, and the lack of interest for research on the other hand, except for what has been presented at random in a chapter of a book, or in a separate research that reviews the theoretical side without presenting analytical examples of these thresholds. Due to the importance of the subject, we have tried to strive within the Arab Critical Institution to present to the Arab reader a new approach from the point of view of the poetics of thresholds, by choosing one of these thresholds. By this, we mean the critical introductions that accompany certain creative texts. After choosing the critical approach, it was the turn to choose the literary works whose introductions we will analyze, and the choice fell on Qatari narration, which in recent years has experienced a narrative accumulation within the creation of Arabic, especially the short story, is what made us choose to work on some of his accompanying critical introductions. This research was based on a body of studies that preceded it on the subject, which approached the introduction in general or the introduction in the old criticism only. As for the approach used in this research, it will not deviate from the approach of the poetics of thresholds which was founded by (G. Genette) in his critical project on poetics, in particular in his book (Thresholds), which mainly adopts a descriptive approach, to understand text entries.
