Abstract:

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of science fairs on the science process skills of secondary school students. The study was structured using a quasi-experimental design with experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group were encouraged to participate in science fairs, prepare projects, and present them. In the meantime, the classes were conducted in accordance with the current curriculum in both groups. In the study, the "Scientific Process Skills Test" was used as the data collection tool, and it was administered to both groups as the pre-test and post-test. The SPSS 24 software was used in the analysis of the collected data. In the analysis of the data that had normal distribution, dependent groups t-test was conducted. The t-test results of the experimental group showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the scientific process skills of the students in the group. However, there was no significant difference in the science process skills of the students in the control group. Therefore, it was determined that the processes of preparing and presenting projects for and during the 4006 TÜBİTAK science fairs had a positive effect on students' scientific process skills. It was observed that the courses taught with the current method did not have the same effect.
