Abstract:

The method of speech analysis used in the research is a method aimed at understanding the speaker’s choices, starting from the language characteristics of the text, and to reveal the covered meanings that the text producer does not express directly within the context. In this study, it was attempted to make a narrative of the Stone Cut Shepherd legend, which belongs to the village of Refahiye's Alaçayir in Ruhi Kara's book "A Research on Erzincan Legends". The legend’s speech was tried to be studied by J. P. Gee’s speech analysis method. According to this method, the legend has been studied under three main titles. Under the three titles, legendary form analysis, meaning analysis and language analysis, J. P. Gee identified the twenty-seven subtitles when doing speech analysis. In the form analysis, the tools the author used to create the speech were revealed and associated with the fictional structure of the legend. In the meaning analysis, the meaning links that make the speech are explained by taking into account the structural elements that make the fiction. In the language analysis, when creating speech, the writer focused on the words and the structures the writer consciously preferred. The study aims to show that the method of speech analysis is an effective way to evaluate literary texts that belong to public literature and to better understand the legends by the reader.
