Lise Öğrencilerinde Görülen Psikolojik Belirtilerin Cinsiyet ve Akademik Başarı Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Bu araştırmanın amacı lise birinci sınıf öğrencilerinde görülen psikolojik belirtilerin cinsiyet ve akademik başarı açısından incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın evreni, KKTC Milli Eğitim ve Kültür Bakanlığı’na bağlı Lefkoşa ilçe merkezindeki resmi ortaöğretim kurumlarında öğrenim görmekte olan lise öğrencileridir. Araştırmanın örneklemini, uygun örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenmiş olan liselerin 1. sınıflarda öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 200 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Örnekleme giren kız öğrenci sayısı (n=112), %78, erkek öğrenci sayısı (n=88), %22’dir. Araştırmanın verileri, Şahin ve Durak (1994) tarafından geliştirilmiş olan “Kısa Semptom Envanteri (KSE) ” ile elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde, “t”, Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi ve Tukey Test Teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Cinsiyete göre, KSE alt ölçeklerinden olan somatizasyon, kişilerarası ilişkilerde duyarlık, depresyon, anksiyete, paranoya, psikotizm arasında anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur. Anlamlı bir farklılık olan bu alt ölçek puanlarının tümünde de kız öğrenciler erkek öğrencilerden daha yüksek puan almışlardır. Buna göre, kız öğrencilerin erkek öğrencilere göre daha fazla psikopataolojik belirtiler gösterdikleri bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına göre, kısa semptom envanteri alt ölçeklerinden “obsesif kompulsif”,“kişilerarası duyarlık”,“hostilite”arasında anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur. Bu bağlamda başarıları düşük öğrencilerin, başarı düzeyi iyi olan öğrencilerden daha fazla psikolojik sorun yaşadıkları saptanmıştır.Yapılan araştırma sonucunda, ergenlerin yaşadığı duygusal ve davranışsal problemlerin görülme sıklığının azımsanamayacak oranlarda olması nedeniyle okullarda rehberlik servisleri tarafından önleyici rehberlik çalışmalarının yapılmasının gerekliliğini ortaya koymaktadır.

The aim of this stuıdy is to investiage the psychological symptoms encountered in senior high school students in relation to gender and academic achievement.The population of the study was all the state senior high school students studying in Nicosia. The sample for the study was determimed by using the appropriate sampling method. The sample consisted of 200 first year state senior high school students. In this study, 112 female (n=112), which consisted of the 78 % of the sample, and 88 (n=88) male students, which was 22 % of the sample, participated. As a data collection instrument ‘Short Symptom Inventory’ developed by Şahin & Durak (1994) was used. In the analysis of the collected data ‘t-test’, one-way Anova and Tukey tests were employed. The findings of the study indicated that there were meaningful significant differences between male and female students regarding somatisation, sensitivity in interpersonal relations, depression, anxiety, paranoia, psychoticism which were the sub-categories of the scale. The findings revealed that in all of these sub-categories females scored higher than the males. The findings also revealed that there were meaningful significant differences among the sub-categories “obsessive compulsive disorder “interpersonal sensitivity”, “hostility” and the participant students’ academic achievement. In this respect, the findings showed that the low achieving students experienced more psychological problems than the high achieving students. As a result of the study it could be claimed that since the rate of the occurrence of the psychological problems experienced by the teenagers cannot be underestimated, there is a need for counseling services offered in schools to focus on preventive counseling practices.
