Harp Tarihi Yazımına Dair Özgün Bir Yaklaşım: Osman Senaî Bey
2014
Journal:
Turkish Studies
Author:
Abstract:

Abstract:

For centuries in human history, harp has been considered a legitimate step to conclude the problems that are unresolved by diplomatic means in international relations. In this context, the study of the causes of the conflicts between the states, the national and especially military forces of the parties, the battles under the war and their military consequences, is among the topics of the work of the Harp History. Without a doubt, the study of the arms with the various aspects will also help in peaceful military training, organization and action planning, as it will keep light on the military strategies of the future. The history of harp in our country is in the appearance of a field that has not been done enough work on it. In addition, the research methods on the subject are too few to disappear. In this framework, it is important to find, classify and objectively evaluate memories and documents that come from date to date for the closure of the gap. As a source of Harp's historical work, the work "1897 Ottoman-Greek Seferi Dömeke Square Battle" was drawn up by Kurmay Senior Captain Osman Senaî (Erdemgil) Mr. in 1898. This work, written in ancient Turkish (Osman) and prepared in three paintings, shows the unchanged certain rules and subtilities of war art. In the first edition of the work, “How to write history harp?” Mr. Osman Senaî, who is in a headline section, in this section gives information on the methods of writing and examining the history of the harp based on which, and to this time, the errors made in this field are explained by giving examples from the past. It is believed that this study assessed by translation into new Turkish letters could be a source of harp history research and writing methods.
