Abstract:

Reading is a result of mental activities in the individual and there are many elements that are effective in gaining a reading habit. The aim of this study is to study the impact of the LGS process on reading habits that play a role in the social and academic success of 8th grade students. The research was conducted with 42 8th-class students who are studying at the Ankara Şehit Ilker Aydın High School and Trabzon Akçaabat Republic High School in the 2018-2019 educational year. There were 21 students from both schools. Data collection, analysis and interpretation has been used. There were semi-configured conversations with the students. The data obtained in semi-configured conversations was recorded with the audio recording device and then spent on paper, the conversations lasted an average of 15 minutes for each student. The study found that most students found that the LGS process had a negative impact on their reading conditions. There are also students who love reading but have no regular reading habits.
