This paper analysis the cointegration and long-run causality relationship between energy consumption and real GDP for Turkey over the period 1961-2010. The results of Johansen cointegration test and VECM model indicate a cointegration and long-run bidirectional causality between these variables. This determined phonemenon, which is called “feedback”, illustrates the dependency of Turkey on energy consumption to reach the aim of long-run sustainable economic growth. Considering that energy imports have an important role in foreign trade deficit of Turkey, it is concluded that a) Turkey should not carry out energy conservation policies, b) the composition of energy expenditures should be switched in favor of renewable energy sources
