Abstract:

Although it’s conceptual history based on the 18th century, the outsourcing concept, which took place much later in the health sector, today have an extensive impact in every industry as in the health care industry. Outsourcing is transferring the activities that are not subject to the main capabilities of an entity to an effective service provider that is expert in the field, in other words, outsourcing indicates a long-term cooperation between function and services purchaser entity and the service offering entity. This cooperation mainly arises from a joint effort of two independent entities for lower cost and higher performance by sharing risk. The fact of increasing the quality of services that brought by outsourcing, obviously matters a great importance in the healthcare sector. In this context, when today’s competitive conditions are taken into consideration, the need for controlling costs while hospitals, located within the health sector, perform high-quality service delivery, become an interesting topic, and many studies have been found in the field. Within this study, it is intended to be done an extensive literature review concerning the relationship between outsourcing, a modern management technique, and costs of hospitals in the healthcare sector, in the general services sector. The study matters as a starting point by creating a source of information to hospitals and relevant groups.
