Abstract:

The Ottoman classical literature and classical poetry is a literature and poetry, one within the other, in real life but not, as some people claim, separated. Poets of the classical school are very good observe and present us their observations by blending them with their artistic power, knowledge and imagination inherent in their creativity. Classical poetry embodies everything we own in our real life. Therefore, a poet cannot live apart from the society, environment and culture in which he lives. Naturally these are reflected in his works. Music, too, is one of the most important and the most beautiful realities in our lives which we can never renounce and give up. We live with music and musical instruments which are source of joy and peace of mind, from birth to the end of our lives. Ottoman classical poets were very much concerned with music, thus, in their thousands of couplets included many aspects of music opening doors to sweet imaginations. In our classical literature, two Albanian poets who lived in the 16th century, Taşlıcalı Yahya Bey (Yahya Beg of Tashlıja) and Dukakin-zâde Ahmed Bey (Ahmet Beg, son of Dukakin) too, included musical elements in their poetry. In our presentation, we selected to evaluate the couplets dealing with musical instruments in the poetical works (divans) of the two Albanian poets. We preferred these poets for two reasons. First, they were both Albanian descendents. Secondly, they were worthy of our classical poets to be taken as example. Taşlıcalı Yahya Bey was a soldier poet, Dukakin-zâde Ahmed Bey had a tendency toward Sufism.
