Abstract:

Nedim is one of the leading poets of 18th century Divan poetry and he had his own style of writing. In his poems, there are descriptions about the time he lived, entertainment and amusement proms in İstanbul, and information about the perception of amusement in İstanbul. The life, buildings, amusement proms, customs and clothes in Istanbul during the Tulip Period, took their places in Nedim’s poems with all their beauties. It is known that various element related to Iran and its literature and mythology play an important part in Divan poetry because of the effect of Iran in Divan literature. This effect continued in all the centuries of Divan poem by decreasing and increasing time to time. Although Iran’s effect was not very strong in the century when Nedim lived, we see many elements about Iran in Nedim’s poems. The possible reason may be the campaign to Iran in the Tulip Period. In our article, we will give information about Nedim and the period he lived and also we will try to establish the elements about Iran in Nedim’s Divan through sample poems and couplets. By means of these elements, we will try to show the Iran effect on the poems of an 18th century Divan poet.
