Abstract:

The Phanar Greek Patriarchate is a historical religious institution It is claimed that Apostle Andrew established the church of Constantinople and became the first Saint of the city After the separate of the Roman Empire Patriarchate of Phanar became the church of Byzantine Empire Then it claimed the status of an ecumenical position among the other Christian Churches This stiation was controversied a long time at the Christian councils and also among the other Christians Churches When the collapsed of the Byzantine Empire it became the church of the Greeks living within the Ottoman Empire Moreover as a religious institution it was granted the right to act as ministry of Greek affairs by the Ottoman Empire With the collapse of Ottoman Empire the Phanar Patriarchate became the church of Greeks living within the modern Republic of Turkey Todays conversations are continuing on the Phanar Patriarchate It is claime that the Patriarchate have intentions to establish itself as an ecumenical church It also is trying to gain power in Turkey and international area Besides it is trying to become influential in Turkish American relations It is stressed that the Phanar Patriarchate no longer enjoys the importance it once possessed in Greek Turkish relations Key Words: Phanar Patriarchate Ecumenism Christian Churches Byzantine Church Orthodox Church Turkish Greek and American relations
