Abstract:

Self-leadership is a process through which individuals control their own behavior, influencing and leading themselves through the use of specific sets of behavioral and cognitive strategies. This study seeks to examine the reliability, validity and adaptation of the Houghton and Neck (2002) Revised Self-Leadership Questionnaire (RSLQ) in a Turkish context. The RSLQ was administered to 563 employees from public and private sectors. For construct validity, exploratory factor analysis is conducted with principal component and varimax rotation method. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) showed that the scale had nine factors which explained 68 %of the total variance. The factor structure of the Turkish version was found to be similar to the original version. Internal consistency coefficients of subscales were varied from 0.64 to 0.87 respectively. The results from a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) utilizing structural equation modelling techniques demonstrate no fit for three models proposed. As a result, the scale which was adapted to Turkish context to measure individuals’ self-leadership strategies was found to be reliable but, validity of it could not be confirmed with that data.
