Abstract:

The aim of this study is to develop a scale to measure leadership styles of school principals according to teachers’ perceptions. The validity and reliability of the scale have been tested with the participation of 499 teachers. In testing the structural validity of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis has been used, and its reliability has been calculated via Cronbach Alpha, Sperman Brown and test re-test reliability coefficient. As a result of the study, a scale that consists of 35 items under 3 factors that explain 54.19 per cent of the total variance has been obtained. Exploratory factor analysis has shown that the scale includes 3 subdimensions, which are transformational, subscriber and releasing leadership dimensions. For transformational, subscriber and releasing leadership dimensions, each of which has been assessed separately, confirmatory factor analysis has been conducted, and it was seen that all models have produced acceptable fit indices. Analyses performed to reveal the reliability of transformational, subscriber and releasing leadership dimensions have established that measurement results of Cronbach Alpha, Sperman Brown and Test Re-Test methods are within acceptable ranges.
