Abstract:

The islands in the Aegean Sea, which attracted Turks’ attention as from the period of beyliks established in Anatolian, were entered into the conquest policy particulary for Saruhans and Aydıns because of the islands’ strategic significance, commercial concerns and location policys. In Ottoman Empire, Crete and Cyprus Islands, two of the biggest ones, which were part of this policy were conquered with the comfort of The Battle of Preveza. After this battle, Ottomans strengthened the Mediterranean domination took from Venetians by taking Cyprus in 1571. Crete Conquest delayed because of some troubles resultinf from Ottoman Unproductive Period was occured with the treaty of Poliocastro in 6th september of 1669. The island granted Fazıl Ahmet Pasha by Venetians was given statu as “distinguished province” by Ottoman Empire and this situation relieved the community suffering from Venetians’ policy. Therefore, some Ottoman governors who couldn’t accept the distinctive statü of some of the Christian Gretans chose the Islam were have to be expelled. Ottoman Empire practicing the equitable government in the island for ages put the parliament establish in the island through the edicts passed in the different dates to the improvements and provided a modern life for society in the island.
