Abstract:

“Mawlid” which literally means birth, birth place and birthday is a genre that expresses some phases of our Prophet’s life and especially his birth with praise in our literature. Among first written Turkish mawlids, literary work of Sulaiman Chalabi called Wasilat al-Najat was admired so much and became a source of inspration for subsequent mawlids. After appearing as a separate genre, many mawlids have been written. One of them is Mawlid of Qara Waiz which is the subject of this research. Qara Waiz, whose pseudonym is "Preacher",  is Mullah Arab who lived probably in the 15th-16th. centuries and known as a poet of mawlid. This article consists of an introduction and three parts. The first part examines life and works of Mullah Arab, who is the highly probable poet of our subject of research “mawlid”, the second part analyzes Mawlid in terms of form and the last part concludes with an evaluation of content of this work.   Key Words: Mawlid, Qara Waiz, Mullah Arab, Hz.
