Abstract:

Urbanization is the process of population growth that creates a change in the number of the cities, the growth of the cities, the organization of the society, the division of labor, specialization, and in human behavior and relationships. Today the vast majority of the world population lives in cities, and the futures of the countries are also shaped in the cities. Turkey met the fact of urbanization after the 1950s and an intensive migration from rural to the urban began. Urban population increased rapidly since 1980s, and at the beginning of the 2000s it reached to 65%, and in 2014 to 91,8% due to the amendments on the administrative divisions of the country. By the end of 2014 the entire population of 30 cities of Turkey live in the cities and the provinces that are accepted as urban places. The population of these cities is nearly 60 million and is 78% of the population of Turkey. In Turkey, the main cause of the population flow to the cities is the adverse living conditions in rural areas and the belief that they will have better living conditions in the cities. Because the population is concentrated in certain big cities in Turkey, an irregular, uneven and rapid urbanization is taking place. This process creates many problems.
