Abstract:

This survey aims to determine the professional burnout levels of music teachers. To this research, 100 music teachers have participated from 65 (10 private, 55 state-run ) elementary schools and 29 (11 private, 18 state-run) secondary schools, 94 schools in total. In research, “Personel Information Form” and “Maslach Burnout Inventory” have been used. In analysis of the data, independent grup“t” test, variance analysis and in case of meaningful variance analysis scheffe test have been applied. Here are the main results of this research : 1) It has been found that the music teachers have more (EE)- Emotional Exhaustion and along with this they live more (PA)- Personal Accomplishment. 2) The scores that the music teachers took from sub-scales of (EE)- Emotional Exhaustion, (DP)- Depersonalization ve (PA)- Personal Accomplishment vary according to the type of school and social-economical environment where they’re in duty. The music teachers working in state-run schools have more (EE)- Emotional Exhaustion and (DP)- Depersonalization than the ones working in private schools. On the other hand, it has been seen that the teachers working in private schools have more (PA)- Personal Accomplishment than the ones working in state-run schools. Besides, the teachers working in low-level social-economical environment have more (EE)- Emotional Exhaustion and (DP)- Depersonalization than the ones working in medium and high level social-economical environment. When inspected the teachers working in high level social economical environment, they have more (PA)- Personal Accomplishment as compared with the ones working in medium and low level social economical environment. The only sub-scale that the burnout scores of music teachers differs is (DP)- Depersonalization according to sexuality. It has been inspected that the female music teachers live more (DP)- Depersonalization than the male ones. But no meaningful difference has been found in between the scores that the teachers took from three sub-scales and marital status, education rank, professional seniority and age.
