Abstract:

Developments in information technology seriously affect the all areas of the life and they also inevitably affect the education systems. The usage of technological tools and materials in education systems has become a mandatory in order to solve problems in the learning-teaching process and to provide the acquired knowledge to be permanent. The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of interactive smartboards usage in learning-teaching process in high schools. Teachers' opinions about the use of smart boards in the teaching-learning process were examined. 42 high school teachers working in 2014-2015 academic year in Tekirdağ were included in this study. Semi-structured interview form includes four question was used to investigate use of smart board in the learning-teaching process as data collection tool. Qualitative research methods were used in this study. The data obtained with semi-structured interview form were assessed with categorical analysis. In this study, the majority of the teachers implied that using interactive smartboards in education systems increase students' achievement and enable students/teachers to access information faster and easier. Additionally, it is observed that, using interactive smartboards significantly increase the motivation of the students. However, it was reported that the functional problems and technical errors about interactive smartboards adversely affect the flow of lessons and students' motivation. In order to get maximum efficiency and contributions from the interactive smartboards, teachers should be well educated about the usage of interactive white boards. Another title discussed in this study is how effects interaction in classroom use of interactive whiteboards. Teachers stating that use of smart boards contribute positively interact with classroom and have expressed lessons were more fun and enjoyable. Another noteworthy point is that use of smart boards increase the multidimensional (student-student, student-teacher, teacher-student) communication in the classroom. As a result, the roles, duties and responsibilities of teachers and students are changing with the adaptation of technology in education. In this context, the roles of teachers and students should be redefined and should be configured in the educational model offered these roles to in a flexible manner. Interactive applications should be supportive element to keep teachers and students actively in this process and should be used in a manner that allows the multidimensional interaction
