Abstract:

The Balkans are of a great importance in the policy of integration of the European Union. Progress made in this topic has resulted in new members to the Union. Some countries of the area are still in the candidat statute and the others trying to fulfill the criterions need to win the statute. One of the countries of the last category is Albania. While the European commissonaires are monitoring the criterions agreed between the EU officials and the Albanian goverment, in the country the discusses on the process are still in increase. This process also has opened the discussion of an important topic for Albania which is the problem of identity. This discussion on the problem of identity which lasts from 2006 to our days has a great importance remembering that Albania which is in the west-east border is the largest Muslim nation of Europe.
