11. Sınıf Öğrencilerine Ait Öyküleyici Metinlerin Bağdaşıklık ve Tutarlılık Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract:

The aim of the research is to determine the level of the 11th grade students’ success to form cohesion and coherence on their writing narration. Sample of the study is 300 students in 2011-2012 academic year, who were chosen from 4 different high schools in Zonguldak. Data collection tools are the writing topics which is consist of 11 options. Data analysis tools are narrative coherence rating scale and narrative cohesion rating scale (Coskun, 2005) . According to the results of this research 11th grade students’ avarage score ın using coherence was determined as 30.80 per student (page). In this research, which analyzes the 4 tools of coherency, the average of using the tools of coherency was found as: Connecting elements 13.24, reference 11.67, elliptic narration 5.69, substitution 1.69. It was found that the average of coherence of students is 1.87 out of 5. According to the findings of the research, it was observed that 11th grade students had difficulties to form coherence and cohesion in narrative texts. A great majority of the coherence problems can be overcome by helping them to understand the importance of expressing themselves orally and written; carrying out writing activities frequently at every level at school; making them to notice the connection with the internal structure of the written text and giving much more feedback to students about their writing. The problem of cohesion in students’ writing can be overcome by analyzed the texts which high level and low level in favour of cohesion in the classroom by teachers. So the source of the students’ mistake can be apprehended.
