Abstract:

As it is known, Turkish has a very rich vocabulary and in itself organ, food, color, disease, plan, etc. In terms of names are used in various phonetic views. Animal names have an important place among these. In this respect, it is important to examine the animal names in Gagauz Turkish and to different aspects. In this study, it is tried to determine the animal names used in Gagauz Turkish which is one of the South-Western (Oghuz) group Turkish dialects. Totally 209 animal names (woodpecker, scorpion, bee, lion, bear, horse, hawk, fish, owl, quail, bit, bull, insect, calf, nightingale, locust, camel, pig, donkey, mouse, elephant, deer, pigeon, rooster eagle, tiger, ant, crow, goose, mule, goat, cat, tick, partridge, butterfly, kestrel, lizard, hedgehog, ram, skunk, sheep, dog, mole, swan, frog, beaver, wolf, bird, lamb, monkey, capricorn, ox, duck ... etc.) were found specially, in N. A. Baskavu’s “Gagauz Turkish Dictionary” book. The names of the animals identified have been arranged in an alphabetical order. In addition, in this study, general information about Gagauz name, Turkish and vocabulary is given.
