Günümüzdeki gelişmiş ülkelerin birçoğu kalkınma süreçlerinde bilgi, yenilik ve teknolojiden faydalanarak bu süreci önemli ölçüde kısaltmış ve kolaylaştırmıştır. Gelişmiş ülkelerin bu tecrübesi ve bilgi ekonomisi unsurlarının özellikle günümüzde hızla gelişmesi nedeniyle bilgi ekonomisi kavramı, ekonomilerini büyütmek ve refah artışı sağlamak isteyen özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerin en fazla üzerinde durdukları konulardan biri haline gelmiştir. Bu sebeple BRICS ülkeleri ile Türkiye 1995-2017 dönemi için kişi başı gayri safi yurtiçi hasıla, internet kullanım oranı, eğitim endeksi ve patent başvuru sayısı değişkenleri kullanılarak panel veri analizi tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre bilgi ekonomisinin üç farklı boyutunu temsil eden bağımsız değişkenler, ekonomik büyümeyi farklı oranlarda ve pozitif yönde etkilemektedir. Bu sonuçlar neticesinde bilgi ekonomisinin ekonomik büyümenin ve refah artışının sağlanması konusunda önemli bir unsur olduğu söylenebilmektedir.
Many of today’s developed countries have significantly shortened and facilitated this process by using knowledge, innovation and technology in their development processes. Due to this experience of developed countries and the rapid development of knowledge economy elements, the concept of knowledge economy has become one of the most emphasized subjects of developing countries, especially those who want to grow their economies and increase well-being. Therefore BRICS countries with Turkey were analyzed by panel data analysis technique using gross domestic product per capita, internet usage rate, education index and patent applications variables for the period of 1995-2017. According to the results, independent variables representing three different dimensions of knowledge economy affect economic growth at different rates and positively. As a result of these results, it can be said that the knowledge economy is an important factor in providing economic growth and welfare increase.
