Abstract:

Thro human history, immigration movements have affected individuals and their families in many ways. Especially because children are not able to complete their mental, physical or social development sufficiently, they form a group very affected by these immigration movements. Therefore, the works written for children must be content and formally qualified, prepared taking into account the developmental characteristics, interests and needs of children. This study has studied the language, time, and space characteristics used for migrants in children's books. According to the findings obtained later, it was given recommendations to children's books writers, teachers, managers and other individuals. In the research, the data collected from the quality research methods through the document review was analyzed using the visual analysis technique. The chosen children's books have been detailed with the analysis form developed in accordance with the expert opinions. The study found that 48% of books contained a number of negative (insulting, humiliating) expressions of the language used against immigrants. Furthermore, in 87 percent of the books studied, migrants were either homeless or forced to live short or long in destroyed, dirty, dirty, dark or wet structures. Approximately 35% of the children’s books surveyed discuss immigration to Germany or immigration from Syria. This situation can be seen as an important indicator that children's books are not ignorant of environmental and social conditions.
