Abstract:

Urban conservation in Europe which is accelerated after the second World War, have started upon wellqualified, monumental structures and environmental protection. Assets associated with cities to the urban life have been provided historical continuity with preservation of the cultural assets above ground and also archaeological remains underground in time. This movement in Turkey has not started simultaneously with Europe; therefore, rich historical character of almost every Anatolian city had been started to be lost. In spite of that loss most of our cities have very rich physical and cultural layers. Recent theoretical and practical studies help to protect these structures but they were not sufficient enough as intended.The article examines protection issues and interventions regarding archaeological layers; moreover, consisted of cultural components for historical cities experiencing modern architectural structuring process. An excavation area in an archaeological site of Milas is used as a case study on this article
