Abstract:

The aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable test to measure the scientific judgment skills of the students of Science Information Education. For his scientific judgment skills, it was based on the theoretical framework that Lawson revealed by reinterpreting the abstract operation period from Piaget's stages of mental development. First, a question pool was created from national and international literature for subdimensions specified in the theoretical framework, and some of them consisted of questions written by researchers. A draft test consisting of 28 questions was created as a result of expert opinions on whether the selected or prepared questions measure the skills in the lower dimensions or not. At the end of the application, two questions that were difficult to understand and interpret from the test questions were raised and the number of questions dropped to 26. The scope of the test is valid by preparing the indication table, and the reliability calculations are carried out through the data obtained by application to 303 students for pilot study purposes.  The analysis found the reliability ratio (Cronbach alpha) for the Scientific Procedure Skills Test (BMBT) as 0.76. With the substance analysis done, the average substance difficulty and differentiability index of the test is calculated. The findings show that the developed BMBT is a valid and reliable test. As a result, BMBT is prepared in accordance with both the recommendations of current research and the scope of the scientific jurisdiction course found in the updated Science Information Education bachelor's program. Thus, the test is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used in both scientific studies in this field and in the classroom evaluation processes in the course of scientific judgment skills at the bachelor’s level of teachers’ science education candidates.
