Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the efficiency of trade aid in terms of export performance of the countries members of the Western African Economic and Monetary Union (BAEPB), which are less developed and receive large amounts of commercial aid. The OECD Credit Institution Reporting System, the World Development Indicator Database, the BAEPB Foreign Trade Statistics and www.heritage.org, using the annual data obtained, panel data analysis for the countries members of the BAEPB between 2005-2014 was carried out for Benin, Burkina Faso, Eagle Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. The method used is panel data analysis. To study the effects of commercial aid, aid is divided into two categories: productive capacity aid and economic infrastructure aid. The study finds that commercial aid has a positive impact on export performance. Productive capacity aid has a meaningful and positive impact on export performance. In contrast, the economic infrastructure aid has no effect. According to the analysis, the sectors that have less productive capacity aid are the sectors that make the largest share in the export of the buyer country.
