Zaman, geçmiş ve gelecek ile birlikte bunlar arasında kalan tüm anları kapsayan bir kavram olarak oldukça büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Ancak zaman sayesinde, zamana göre durum ve olaylar değer kazanmakta ve bu sayede bilinmekte, kaydedilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, zamanı eksiksiz bir biçimde tanımlamak değil aksine kavramın belirli bir alan üzerinde hangi şekillerde ifade edildiğini ortaya koyarak bir anlamda kavram alanını oluşturabilmektir. Anılan belirli alan ise Eski Uygur Türkçesi döneminden kalan çatiklerdir. Bu küçük eserlerin seçilmesinin temel sebebi dilinin sade, dolayısıyla halkın konuşup düşündüğü ve yazdığı dil olmasıdır. Diğer bir sebep ise çatiklerin form olarak tıpkı masallar gibi muhayyel bir zamanda geçmesi dolayısıyla kavram hakkında daha geniş bir alan oluşturulabileceğinin düşünülmesidir. Çalışmanın giriş kısmında zaman kavramı hakkında genel bazı bilgiler verildikten sonra Eski Uygurlarda edebî bir tür olarak çatikler ve Budizm’de zaman kavramı hakkında ana hatlarıyla bilgi verilecektir. Son olarak çatiklerde zaman kavramının hangi şekillerde ifade edildiği üzerinde durulacak ve kavramlar örneklerle birlikte sunulacaktır.
Time has a great importance together with the past, the future and all moments between them as a concept. The aim of this study is not to define the concept of time in a complete way. Rather the topic is to question its presence on a particular area. In other words, our goal is to reveal the conceptual field of time. Expressed particular area is jātakas which belong to the Old Uighur Turkish. The reason for the selection of these little studies is that possessing plain language that people think, speak and write. Another reason is that as a form, jātakas are very smiling to legends. Both of them use an imaginary time in their atmosphere. In the introduction part is given general information about time. Later respectively discussed jātaka as a literary genre in Old Uighur literature and time concept in Buddhism. Lastly, dwelled on the ways in which time concept is expressed.
