Abstract:

The World Bank is also one of the important international institutions in the formation of the global perception of poverty and the fight against poverty. The international poverty limit, which it has developed specifically to measure poverty, is a criterion that can be used to predict the size of global poverty. In 2018, the World Bank developed a multi-dimensional poverty index with absolute and relative new poverty limits that reflect higher levels of prosperity as complementary to the international poverty limit. The aim of this study is to reveal in what direction the dimensions and appearance of global poverty are changing according to the current international poverty limit and the newly developed limit and index. The study is based mainly on a literary scan and situation analysis based on the World Bank’s documents and data. The global poverty, which is estimated to be 10% compared to the international poverty limit of $1.90, which is traditionally used by the World Bank, increases when calculated by the new poverty limit. While the goal of reducing the extreme poverty to half has been achieved through the fight against poverty on the international level over the past twenty years, the definition of poverty continues to be one of the world’s most important problems when it is expanded.
