Abstract:

In this study, it was purposed to determine the relationship between the power sources that are used by school principals and the teachers’ organizational cynicism perceptions. The survey model was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 305 teach-ers working in Kutahya city center. In the study, the Organizational Power Sources Scale (OPSS) and Organizational Cynicism Scale (OCS) were used as data collection tools. In data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient analysis were used. According to the findings, teachers think that school principals most use legitimate power whereas they least use coercive power. Participants’ opinions about reward power vary according to gender; opinions about legitimate power, reward power, expert power, and referent power vary according to branch. Participants feel the highest cynical behaviors in the “participation of employees in decisionmaking” sub-dimension; and feel the lowest in the “negative attitude towards school” sub-dimension. Participants’ opinions about the “participation of employees in decision-making” sub-dimension vary according to branch. Low and mid-level relationships were identified between the power sources that are used by the school principals and the cynicism perceptions of the teachers
